Document Description

Runaway In Jail. Was committed to the Jail of Claiborne county, as runaway, on the 2d inst. a negro man, five feet seven inches high, slender made and dark complected [sic], has a scar on the back part of his left-leg, and one on his neck, and appears to be 25 or 30 years of age; says his name is BENJAMIN, and belongs to Mrs. BUFFINGTON of the state of Ohio, and that he was hired to ELLI STEPHENSON, who descended the Mississippi in a flat boat, and left him in the city of Natchez.
