Document Description

One Hundred Dollars Reward. Ran Away or was stolen from me about the 14th instant—A Negro Man, named STRAP, aged 44 years; 5 feet 9 inches high, stoops considerably, walks wide, has a very large mouth, & when he laughs shews his gums & teeth, which are large, he has a sore leg to which he is much addicted, is a fellow of very humble manners, and is a tolerable good rough carpenter, had on when he went away a grey colored broad cloth coat, a pair of nankeen pantaloons, more than half worn, and a wool hat, which has been cut in several parts of the brim by some mischevious person, he had also with him a pair of blue cloth pantaloons, faced with buck skin. I have great reason to believe he has been taken off by a white man, by whom it is probable that he may be carried to Tom Bigby [Tombigbee] or to the Natchez, and if to the latter place, it is probable he will be thence carried to some of the settlements on Red River—The above reward will be given for apprehending the thief so that he may be prosecuted to conviction, or Twenty Dollars for securing the Negro in any Jail so that I get him again and all costs and expences if brought home. NINIAN EDWARDS. Logan County, (Ken.).
