Document Description

Runaway In Jail. Was committed to the Jail of Adams county by Samuel Postlethwaite, Esq. on the 16th day of July 1830, a negro boy who calls himself SAM, about 26 years of age, 5 feet 7 inches high—Said negro is quite robust, with large eyes, and high cheek bones, and thick lips; had on when committed, a pair of white linen pantaloons, an old valentia vest, a coarse shirt and an old fur hat, and says he belongs to DUNCAN McGEE, of Franklin county (Mississippi) [sic] on the Homochitto river. The owner of the above described negro is requested to comply with the law, and take him out of Jail. W. W. CALMES, Jailor. Natchez.
