Document Description

Was committed to the Jail of Adams county, on the 29th of October 1830, by S. Postlethwaite Esq. a negro man who calls himself JOHN, and says he belongs to WM. SURGETT of said county; he is about 25 years of age, 5 feet 7 or 8 inches high, of a dark complexion, and a very good countenance; said negro had on when committed, a pair of linen pantaloons, an old linen shirt, and a common chappo [sic] very much worn. The owner of the above described negro is requested to comply with the law and take him out of Jail. W. W. CALMES, Jailor.
