Document Description

Runaway In Jail. Was committed to the jail of Adams county, by Jas. Carson, Esq., on the 15th day of March, 1831, a negro boy of very dark complexion, who calls himself JOHN, and says he belongs to Mr. BOYD, (whose christening name he does not know,) [sic] of said county, and that he was lately purchased at this landing by said Boyd—he is about 18 years of age, 5 feet 2 inches high, had on a mixed dress coat, considerably worn, new wool hat, blue mixed pantaloons, old pumps and white yarn socks and cotton shirt; has a large mouth with very white sound teeth—he has some other articles of clothing to [sic] numerous to mention. The owner of the above described negro is requested to comply with the law and take him out of jail. W. W. CALMES, Jailor.
