Document Description

Was committed to the jail of Adams county, on the 4th day of October, 1831, by Samuel Postlethwaite, esquire, a negro man calling himself CHARLES, and says he belongs to HENRY STURDIVAN of Jefferson county, Mi. Said negro is 5 feet 8 inches high, and about 40 years of age. He is of very dark complexion, with a very high forehead, and sound front teeth—had on, cotton twilled hunting shirt, linen pantaloons, and cotton shirt. The owner of the above described negro is requested to comply with the law and take him out of jail. W. W. CALMES, Jailor.
