Document Description

Runaway in Jail. Was committed to the Jail of Warren county, on the 20th November last, by J. Cornell, J. P. a negro man, who calls his name PETER, and says that he is a free man: He says he is claimed as a slave by A.M. HALLEY of Port Gibson; Said negro is about 38 or 40 years old, five feet five and half inches high, had on when committed an old blue cloth coat, grey casinett pantaloons, old white hat, cotton shirt, black cloth vest, and pair of strong brogans. The owner is requested to come forward, prove his property, pay charges and take him away, or he will be sold pursuant to the statutes for the payment of his prison fees. REUBEN MARSHALL, Jailor.
