Document Description

Runaway in Jail. Was committed to the jail of Warren county, May 8th, 1832, by John Lane, Judge of Probate, a negro man who calls himself JOE and says he belongs to ABSALOM PETIT, living in the lower end of said county; said negro is five feet nine and three quarter inches high, of dark complexion, about twenty-eight years of age, had on when committed a white woolen round jacket, domestic shirt, oznaburg [sic] pantaloons, stout brogan shoes, and an old fur hat. The owner of said negro is requested to come forward, prove property, pay charges, and take him away, or he will be dealt with as the law directs. JAS. HALL, Jailer. Vicksburg.
