Document Description

Runaway in Jail. Committed to the jail of Warren county 3d Dec. 1832, by James Cornell Justice of the Peace in and for said county, a mulatto man who calls his name ALLEN, and says he belongs to Capt. WILLIAMSON of Madison county Mississippi. Said negro was deposited in said jail last spring for safe keeping, as the property of R. M. WILLIAMSON of Madison co. Mi. Said negro is five feet eight inches high, about thirty-seven years of age, complexion bright, has a fine suit of hair, stout built; had on when committed a brown jeans frock coat, a mixed woollen [sic] vest, domestic shirt, domestic pantaloons, strong brogan shoes, and an old black fur hat. The owner of said negro is requested to come forward prove property, pay charges and take him out of jail, or he will be dealt with as the law directs. JAMES HALL, Jailer.
