Document Description

$100 Reward. Ranaway from the subscriber last October, a negro man named CYRUS, alias CY, between 21 and 25 years of age, slim make, about 5 feet 8 or 9 inches high, of a dark copper color, redish eyes, vicious countenance; he has a noted mark, one of his wrists has been sprained, and has a large lump on the inside where the wrist joins the hand, consequently much larger than the other. He is a confirmed runaway villian [sic]; has been taken out of the jail at Natchez, Port Gibson and Vicksburg; within less than two years—he makes it an inevitable rule never to tell his right name nor the name of his owner, though he has been severely whipped to make him tell—hence he is very much marked by the whip. I will give the above reward for the delivery of said negro to me near New Carthage, Parish Concordia, Louisiana, if taken up after the date of this advertisement—if taken up previous to this, I will pay a liberal reward and all reasonable charges for his delivery as above, or I will pay a liberal compensation for any information that I may thereby be enabled to get said negro man. MOSES GROVES New Carthage.
