Document Description

Was committed to the jail of Adams county, as a runaway, by W. B. Melvin, esq. on the 9th day of June, 1833, a negro boy calling himself RILEY, and says he belongs to ISHAM WOODS of Wilkinson county, Mi., he is 5 feet 11 inches high, and about 30 years of age, moderately dark complexion, spar and erect in his person, large white eyes, a very heavy bushy coat of hair, has a very large scar on the out side of his right hand, which has contracted his fingers, and occasioned (as he says) [sic] from a burn; he had on cotton shirt and an old pair of bombazett pantaloons. The owner of the above described negro is requested to comply with the law and take him out of jail. W. W. CALMES, Jailor.
