A Look at women's experience at The University of Southern Mississippi in the 1960s and 1980s through the lens of the Student Printz

by Ellie Forsyth

In the McCain Library and Archives housed at the University of Southern Mississippi, there is an extensive collection of the Student Printz. These student run and created newspapers reflect the campus culture throughout the years. This exhibition is designed to simulate a viewer actually looking at these documents in the archives as a researcher. By looking through the pages of the Student Printz, two women who won Homecoming Queen in their respective times shine through. Through their stories in this exhibition, a woman’s college experience in the 1960s and 1980s is better understood. However, the shortcomings of both of these decades still remain present. Enjoy this immersive exhibition on a journey through the archives!
