Abstract

The author offers strategies for increasing, the enrollment of minority students in schools of library and information science and promotes mentoring as an effective means of retaining students. The impact upon the future of the field of the current low number of minority students and faculty members is discussed. Strategies cover recruitment programs, promoting awareness of careers in librarianship to potential students, sources of funding, and support services to increase retention.
