Description
As libraries take a larger role in scholarly publishing activities through their repositories, they are taking steps to offer some of the same services as larger publishers, which includes assigning Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) to published content. In this presentation, we will offer a brief overview of DOIs and the benefits that they provide. We will then use the implementation of DOIs at The University of Southern Mississippi as a brief case study to outline the process of creating and assigning DOIs through a membership with Crossref. The presentation will conclude with a discussion of information received from listservs and methods used to submit data from the IR to Crossref in the proper format.
