Thomas Fredrick Jenkins

Abstract

As music performance guides continue to provide access to a body of research relevant to knowledge of significant musical works, the purpose of this study is to provide for the preparation, rehearsal and performance of a choral work, In the Beginning by Aaron Copland. This guide includes biographic and historic information, and theoretical analysis for comprehensive information regarding preparation and performance of the selected work. Rehearsal techniques and conducting solutions to problems evident in the composition are sequentially described to assist the conductor in leading effective rehearsals and in appropriate performance practice.
