Abstract

The purpose of this study was to use a statistical analysis to compare personal and professional characteristics of principals serving in Mississippi schools who were members of two distinct groups: One group was comprised of principals serving in schools that met Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) and the second group was comprised of principals in schools identified as being in School Improvement after not having met AYP targets of the No Child Left Behind Federal Act. A survey was used to collect data for purposes of an analysis. No significant differences were found between the two groups. The survey instrument used to obtain data did not maintain acceptable limits of reliability; therefore, findings were generalized with caution.
