1-Pentyl 4,6-Dihydroxy-5-Nitrosopyridine-3-Carboxylate: A New Reagent for the Determination of Osmium

Abstract

The reagent 1-pentyl 4,6-dihydroxy-5-nitrosopyridine-3-carboxy-late has been used to photometrically determine osmium. Several interferences are eliminated by an extraction prior to the development of the purple color formed between PDHNPC and osmium. This method is highly sensitive for osmium, the molar absorptivity for the complex being 3.4 × 10⁴ at 550 nm. The reaction ratio is 1∶1 reagent to osmium.
