The Center for the Study of the Gulf South (CSGS), founded in 1999, promotes the study of the history of the US South and territories in Central America and the Caribbean through scholarship, funding research, and hosting public events. We offer strengths in several critical eras:—the colonial Gulf South, slavery and abolition, the Civil War era, and the Civil Rights Movement and other mobilizations for citizenship and equality. The faculty and graduate students of the CSGS regularly present their work at leading academic conferences, in online forums, and on-campus. Some of those events have been recorded and are found below. For more information, please visit our webpage at https://www.usm.edu/gulf-south/index.php.
