Description

With the increase in funder-mandated public access policies, the Office of Research at the University of Florida approached the George A. Smathers Libraries to help identify journal articles authored by UF faculty and researchers. By pairing the publications with known grants, the university could follow up with researchers to ensure required deposits were made in a timely fashion. The UF Libraries undertook a pilot project with Elsevier to facilitate this need. Phase I included the creation of an API from Elsevier that allowed the ingest of metadata from UF authored papers into the UF Institutional Repository (IR@UF). In early 2018 Phase II was implemented, where accepted manuscripts from 2013 on were provided by Elsevier for inclusion in the IR@UF, thus enabling non-subscribers to access the scholarship. This presentation looks at the trajectory of this collaboration, and reflections on the successes and challenges of such a project.
