Trevor Alvin Beckford, school and church music educator: An examination of his contribution to music education in Jamaica

Trevor Alvin Beckford is one of the most talented and accomplished school and church music educators in Jamaica, West Indies. He has been awarded many national honors from various organizations in Jamaica for his contributions to music education. This study documents his achievements during his 36-year career (1961-1997) as a school and church music educator at St. Jago high school and St. Jago cathedral respectively. Brief accounts of his service as a piano teacher, as organ recitalist, and as president of the Jamaica Guild of Organists, Choirmasters and Associates are also discussed. Beckford's life and work are presented within the context of both positive and negative socioeconomic and political trends in Jamaica. The study concludes with an interpretation of data and conclusion.
