What constitutes an “abnormal” body? What is a “normal” body? Who decides what is “normal” and what isn’t? How and why are some bodies and minds labeled as “disabled”? The primary presenter for this event will discuss the history of disability and ways that the concept of “normalcy” has shaped what we perceive as “disabled” with a focus on the past two centuries and the rise of modern medicine.
