Abstract
Interested in easily adding recently published books featuring Black, Indigenous, and People of Color with intersectional identities to your readers’ advisory, lesson plans, programming, and collection development? The Diverse BookFinder (DBF) is an open-access resource you can use for quickly and effectively identifying diverse works of youth literature in a variety of genres and reading levels from picture books through young adult literature. Our presentation will introduce this tool and methods for using its resources to enrich your book collection and formal and informal book-based interactions with PreK-12 readers and their caregivers. We will also review the conceptual and practical challenges of the database’s recent expansion, including the testing and refinement of metadata and new strategies for material coding.
