Abstract
This doctoral project investigates acupressure as a non-pharmacological option for PONV management, focusing on the P6 point (Neiguan). The physiological processes involved in regulating nausea are highlighted in the discussion of the mechanisms of action. This research also looks at the valuable uses of acupressure in clinical settings and the education of PACU nurses and anesthesia providers. By utilizing knowledge, including acupressure, PACU nurses and anesthesia providers can improve satisfaction with care, expedite recovery, and boost overall patient well-being. This doctoral project strives to decrease healthcare costs associated with prolonged hospital stays, optimize patient recovery experiences, expand knowledge for PACU nurses and anesthesia providers, and offer an integrated strategy for postoperative care that puts the patient's needs first. It also advocates for the inclusion of acupressure in PONV management.
