Abstract
Delta-shaped basis functions are approximately compactly supported basis functions and they can effectively handle scattered data. In this paper, the performance of delta-shaped basis functions is compared with that of the compactly supported radial basis functions for solving elliptic boundary value problems in a collocation approach.
