Abstract
The process of internationalization and globalization in higher education has a largely underexplored history which this chapter seeks to address. By examining both the history of the language and terminology in its introduction and then considering three examples of globalization and international travel that impacted youth and young adults in regard to education, the chapter complicates and considers why historical events should be studied as well as allowing consideration of why some individuals with familial and cultural knowledges may have concerns and hesitations of engaging in study abroad, cultural exchanges, and more. Ultimately, by exploring three distinct histories in globalizations impact on youth, the chapter seeks to address complications and allow for better planning and growth by considering the cultural, historical, and structural limitations that some may still perceive in such work.
