Abstract
Chapter 6 is positioned in age group swimming and from the perspective of a volunteer coach. Volunteer coaches face unique pressures: balancing high performance expectations with limited resources, navigating organisational politics, and juggling coaching duties alongside personal and professional commitments. Caroline experienced a loss of motivation, decreased effectiveness, and detachment from the coaching environment resulting in prolonged stress from her unpaid assistant coaching role. Volunteers are prevalent in youth sport, and this chapter explores both prevention and recovery strategies to support the volunteer coach.
