Abstract
Arylsilane diisocyanate based urethane clear coatings have been synthesized and their performance compared with methylene diisocyanate derived urethanes. Arylsilane urethanes show little yellowing tendencies, while hardness, tensile strength, adhesion, processability, and impact resistance are not sacrificed. The mechanism of yellowing in urethane coatings and the effect of arylsilane incorporation on yellowing is discussed.
