Abstract
Companion viruses have not received as much attention as their non-companion counterparts. To some extent this is due to the fact that only a small percentage of the computer viruses released into the computing world have been companion viruses. However, this may change in the near future. Companion viruses do not have size restrictions that non-companion viruses have. Thus, these viruses can be programmed to perform more actions. These actions may be to steal corporate data as well as circumvent anti-viral programs. This paper discusses these types of virus and several detection techniques.
