Abstract
Educational goats for the elderly were established after 100 older southern Americans living in a rural/urban area of Mississippi were surveyed regarding knowledge of their communication needs. Many subjects indicated a basic but minimal knowledge of hearing disorders (42%) and hearing aids (74%). Few subjects indicated that they knew of someone with a speech disorder (5%) or of a professional who could help people with a speech problem (31%).
