Abstract
This creative project document details my technical and creative process during my assignment as properties master for The University of Southern Mississippi Theatre Department’s production of Alan Bennett’s The Wind in the Willows. All research, meetings, and production culminated in the run of eight performances of the show which occurred between November 13th- 23rd of 2014. My work was nominated for Excellence in Allied Arts and Crafts, allowing me to attend the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival Region 4 in February to present my design.
In this project, I examine the production idea as determined by the design team and discuss the role of the props master in the production process as well as a description of the hierarchy used in technical theatre. I also describe my process of script analysis, my historical research, and my technical research for construction. In the last section of the document I evaluate my role as a leader and an artist, and determine the effectiveness of my role and work in the production.
