Abstract
The Burning of Restoran is a novella that combines ancient Serbian and Greek epic style oral history and contemporary mythology. The themes in this piece all harken back to ones that stir the soul: war, trauma, music, water, and family. The rest of the stories in this collection, “Twin,” “Groundwork,” “Facts about Octopuses,” and “Wait,” are short fiction or “flash fiction.” These stories tie together in theme; they are linked by the common theme of trauma. The making of this collection was heavily influenced by the format of fairy tales and folktales in Eastern Europe.
