Description
In recent years, libraries have had to cancel some of their large journal subscription bundles, known as “big deals,” because the costs of these bundles have become unsustainable. What do these changes mean for researchers? Could the same thing happen here? How are publishers responding? This presentation offers an overview of some of the catalyzing forces behind these changes and will examine several new initiatives (Plan S, Projekt DEAL, the University of California system’s “transformative agreements”) that offer insight into where academic publishing may be heading in the years to come.
