Abstract
As public support for Black Lives Matter grew in the spring and summer of 2020, the public outcries for justice for the victims of police brutality led many to look into the history of policing. This research into how policing developed from the colonial city guards and slave patrols into the militarized police force of today has revealed how the institution of policing was made for the protection of capital.
