The Catalyst is a Multidisciplinary Review of Undergraduate Scholarship at The University of Southern Mississippi. It is dedicated to inspiring undergraduates to take the knowledge acquired in classrooms to a new level of undergraduate research, to encourage students to use knowledge in new ways, and to create new knowledge. The purpose of the journal is to bring the importance of undergraduate research to the full attention of faculty, staff, and students, and to serve as a showcase for the high level of academic excellence and prestigious research generated at The University of Southern Mississippi. The Catalyst serves as a place for undergraduates to gain research experience, to garner the recognition they deserve for their innovative research, and to show other undergraduates what great things can be accomplished through research, thus demonstrating The University of Southern Mississippi’s commitment to quality undergraduate education. Undergraduate research can involve creative work, service learning, travel, experience, laboratory discovery and traditional library research.
