Research and Publication Ethics

For original research articles, JCD expects appropriate approval from an institutional or organizational review board as well as procedures that would adequately protect human subjects. In the event research misconduct is detected, publications may be retracted.

JCD encourages authorship to be credited to individuals who have significantly contributed to the manuscript in one or more of the following areas:

  • Conceptualization of the project/paper
  • Reviewing and/or summarizing the current literature
  • Creating the research design (if applicable) or theoretical approach
  • Selecting the measurements and/or statistical analyses
  • Analyzing or interpreting the results
  • Development and construction of the manuscript

Authorship order should be determined by relative contribution and, in some cases, authors providing guidance to the full group may be listed last. Individuals not significantly contributing to these areas should not be credited for authorship, regardless of position, as minor contributions can be acknowledged in a footnote. JCD will require a publication acknowledgement to be submitted by all authors prior to publication.
