Description
Open Source software has always been a popular topic of discussion within libraries, but with Elsevier's recent purchase of Bepress and the circulating suggestion that libraries ought to set aside 2.5% of their budget to support an open scholarly commons infrastructure, more libraries are looking into Open Source technology for IRs than ever before. This presentation will draw upon the experience of Florida State Unversity Libraries' migration from Digital Commons to Islandora to explore why Open Source is a good thing for the future of libraries, as well as the organizational culture libraries must adopt towards Open Source in order to deliver on its promise.
